Cathy Day of Peru, Ind., finished her master of fine arts degree in fiction writing here at the University of Alabama. For a few years, she moved from one college teaching job to another, and in 2004 published a volume of linked stories, ‘The Circus in Winter,’ based on the off-season life of the Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus.
